Cochrane's defining exterior problem is wind. The town sits in the Bow Valley where it opens onto the foothills, and chinook gusts funnel through at highway speeds several times each winter. Wind damage concentrates at rakes, ridges and the first courses above the eave, which is exactly where a fast installer's shortcuts show — nails placed high, nails driven short, shingles never properly sealed. Correct nailing placement and count is not a detail here; it is the difference between a roof that rides out a gust and one that peels. We specify and install accordingly, and on exposed hillside lots we go further.

That same wind drives the other Cochrane pattern: creased shingles that look intact from the ground. Uplift folds a shingle without tearing it off, the fibreglass mat breaks along the fold, and the shingle fails there in the next event.
